Banana Porridge

Banana Porridge

From the tip of Lands End to John ‘O’ Groats

Everyone loves a hot bowl of oats

What can we add to give it a twist?

There’s so many options, we could make a list

We know that it really is very delicious

A favourite fruit that’s also nutritious

We’ll give you a clue, the colour is yellow

He’s Sammy’s best friend and such a nice fellow

Ingredients:

  • 100g porridge oats
  • 700ml milk
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1-2 teaspoons of honey
  • Optional toppings: Slices of banana, cinnamon and honey

Method:

To get started you need to wash your hands and pop an apron on.

Put the oats, milk and cinnamon in a saucepan and ask your adult helper to put the pan over a medium heat. Allow the milk to come to a boil, this is when it is bubbling, and then turn the heat to low.

Stir the porridge for about 5 minutes, until it has thickened.

You need to peel the banana and mash it in a bowl with a fork. Add this to the porridge along with the honey. Stir everything together and spoon into bowls.

Decorate with extra slices of banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon and drizzle of honey.
